Seasonal Patterns:
Spring Time:
I start taking trips toward the end of March. The bass are still in
their wintering areas as the River begins its slow warm up. Finesse
worms and jigs are the best tools to catch them this time of year
and catches can be good. These are great trips for people with cabin
fever that can’t wait to get outdoors on a early spring day and
catch some bass.
April – June:
It’s on! The Delaware Largemouth are setting up in their spawning
areas and are very active. This is the easiest time of year to catch
them. Fifteen to twenty bass a day is not uncommon this time of
year. The bass are still biting finesse baits but as the water
warms, crankbaits and spinnerbaits can be very good.
July-August:
Its Summer time on the River. The bass have moved into the current
to chase forage and they will stay there all summer long. It’s time
to catch them on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits and jigs. It’s
also time to move around a lot and chase the good tide up and down
the river and back into its many tributaries.
September-November:
I love the fall on the River. The leaves are changing and the bass
are migrating. This time of year the fish are making their way out
of the creeks and away from the heavy current. The bait is moving to
areas that are protected from the main river current and bass follow
right behind. It’s a great time of year to catch a big fish on the
Delaware and Crankbaits are king!
